The French duo AIR touch down in Barcelona on Friday 14th June, where they’ll perform their debut album in full on Sónar by Night’s biggest stage.
Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel return to the stage for the first time in seven years. They’ll perform their influential first album ‚Moon Safari‘ in full for the first time, alongside other hits from their catalogue. Air play „Moon Safari“ will join over 100 shows and activities at Sónar 2024. Names already announced include Jessie Ware, Kaytranada, Folamour, and Vince Staples.
Today Air are added to the Sónar 2024 lineup, in celebration of 25 years of their acclaimed debut album ‚Moon Safari‘. The French duo will take to SonarClub, the main stage of Sónar by Night, on Friday 14th June, to mark a quarter century of ‚Moon Safari‘, providing a rare opportunity to see Air perform this iconic record in its entirety.
„Moon Safari“ (1998), now considered a cult classic, still sounds fresh today. It’s a perfect record from the golden era of French electronic music, a masterful fusion of downtempo with the rich heritage of chanson française: in the words of one of its creators, „a deep, universal spell, full of love and mystery.“ Its release catapulted Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel to fame, with tracks like ‚Sexy Boy‘, ‚All I Need‘, and ‚La Femme d’Argent‘ lodging themselves in the public subconscious during the late 90s. Their success was such that director Sofia Coppola tapped them to soundtrack her debut feature-length film „The Virgin Suicides“.
The band’s appearance at Sónar 2024 sees the return of Air to the festival, following a previous live set in 2010. The French duo’s new show will join over 100 other performances and activities at Sónar 2024, joining already announced acts like Jessie Ware, Kaytranada, Ben Böhmer live, Vince Staples, Folamour, The Martinez Brothers, Kerri Chandler, Charlotte de Witte presents ‚Overdrive‘, Floating Points, and Olof Dreijer. The festival’s lineup will be finalised in the coming weeks.
Tickets for Sónar 2024 are now on sale at sonar.es. In addition, as is the case every year, Sónar will help young people attend the festival via the European Youth Card scheme, which offers discounts for those under the age of 30.
