Electronic pop track infused with drum-and-bass influences. Alternative pop artist Janet Livv shows no signs of slowing down. Following the release of her EP „Underthink It“ last June, the singer-songwriter from Limburg (The Netherlands) is set to launch her brand-new single, „7TEEN“, on November 6th. The track marks the beginning of a journey tied to an entirely new EP, due out next year.
With this first single, Janet Livv takes the listener back to her youth. The song explores the dynamics of growing up and nostalgia. „7TEEN“ was inspired by my teenage years in Venlo, where we would often hang out together at a picnic table in the park,” Janet explains. “I wanted to capture the feeling of those days on which I was losing track of time with friends and simply living in the moment. For me, the song is also about challenging myself to reconnect with that feeling as an adult, and learning not to take everything so seriously.”
The foundation for the new track emerged organically. Janet explains how it came to be: “The creative process began with a simple synth line and the phrase, ‘Used to smoke on a bench, under the trees.’ Producer Levi Streuper and I then further developed this with Rens Jansen (Centre Court).” The result is an electronic pop track infused with drum-and-bass influences. You’ll hear dreamy vocals layered over a rich, heavy synth, leading towards a catchy drop. This sound, which is distinctive to Janet Livv, has certainly been turning heads lately. She previously won the Limburgse Popprijs as the fan favorite, earning her a spot on the stage at Pinkpop Festival (!), and has also received support from NPO 3FM. Her earlier track, „Cut Me Down“, a collaboration with producer Artino, also gained significant attention, receiving airplay on stations including BBC Radio 1 and Kool FM (UK).
New live setup:
Behind the scenes, Janet Livv is currently working on an entirely new live setup. While she previously brought a hybrid mix of acoustic and electronic elements to the stage, she is now focusing on a fully electronic set, accompanied only by a live drummer. This approach creates more room for samples and synths, while fostering a more intimate connection with the audience. “I want people to be able to lose themselves in the music, while also feeling as though I’m right there with them,” says Janet. In October, she offered a promising preview of her new material while serving as the support act for singer IDA at venues Hedon (Zwolle) and Simplon (Groningen). And that is just the beginning of what’s to come!
