SÓNAR ADDS OVER 60 NEW ACTS TO THE BILL & ANNOUNCES BRAND NEW STAGE SONARXS

Sónar 2017 adds over 60 acts including Thundercat, Cerrone, DAWN, Joe Goddard, Dellafuente + Maka, Andy Stott, Jlin, Matmos, Elysia Crampton, C.Tangana and Princess Nokia.

Sónar introduces a brand new stage, SonarXS, its ninth, in Sónar by Day, to showcase new talent and underground sounds in close quarters. Its debut edition will pay special attention to the new evolutions in trap, and will also include artists such as Kiddy Smile, Total Freedom, Deena Abdelwahed and DJ Florentino.

The legendary French musician Cerrone, a regular at New York’s Studio 54 and creator of disco hits like “Supernature” and “Love In C Minor”, will present a special show at Sónar by Night with projections, live vocalists and all the hits from his celebrated career.

The program also includes more than twenty major artists from the Spanish electronic scene, such as Dellafuente + Maka, Bad Gyal, Anímic, Aitor Etxebarria, Bejo, Playback Maracas, and legendary dj Fran Lenaers, among others.

The SonarDôme stage program, curated by Red Bull Music Academy and Sónar, is completed with the incorporation of several well-known artists and numerous young talents and projects emerging from the classrooms of RBMA. Established names of note include Thundercat, experimental American duo Matmos, the extraordinary young MC Earl Sweatshirt, a key member of the Odd Future collective; the world premiere of the “Floorplan Live” show by Detroit techno master Robert Hood, together with his daughter Lyric; and C. Tangana, perhaps the most popular and relevant name in today’s national rap scene are among the artists confirmed today.

Tech shows also take a leading role in the programme, with the addition of performances by Nonotak – one of the most cutting edge artists in the contemporary scene when it comes to their use of technology and staging, and Boris Chimp – with a narrative a/v show focused around the journey of the first chimpanzee sent to the moon in 1969.

This year’s festival will feature more than 150 performances across 9 stages, including the previously announced shows of Justice, Arca & Jesse Kanda, Soulwax, DJ Shadow, Nicolas Jaar, Moderat, Eric Prydz, De La Soul, Anderson .Paak, Vitalic, Nina Kraviz, andNosaj Thing & Daito Manabe.

After Sónar Reykjavik’s 5th sold-out edition (16,17,18 February), the festival continues its international tour with the first editions of  Sónar Istanbul (24, 25 March) and Sónar Hong Kong (1 April).
