EUROPE’S LARGEST AND LONGEST STANDING SNOW AND MUSIC FESTIVAL CELEBRATES ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING EDITION
The sixteenth edition of Snowbombing, Europe’s largest, longest standing and most unique snow and music festival, took place from 6th-11th April 2015, welcoming over 7000 international festivalgoers from more than 15 different countries to the Austrian town of Mayrhofen.
More than 100 world class acts, including 2manydjs, Andy C, Ame, Basement Jaxx, Carl Cox, Carl Craig, Dubfire, Fatboy Slim, Gorgon City, Hot Since 82, Idris Elba, Jackmaster, Job Jobse, Lele Sacchi, MK, Rudimental, Sigma and Skrillex, performed at some of the most awe-inspiring festival venues in the world, including a sky-high igloo 6,000 feet above sea level, an enchanted forest, a street party, cosy alpine lodges, winter sports board parks and medieval barns.
Here are just some of the many, many highlights:
Sunday 5th April – The Snowbombing 2015 Road Trip rolled into town, starting the festival in serious style, before Andy C opened the Racket Club with a mammoth five-hour set.
Monday 6th April – The official kick off date arrived with acts including Carl Cox, Dubfire and Gorgon City’s Live show, Jackmaster & Heidi’s four hour b2b masterclass and the Digital Soundboy crew. Eats Everything & Artwork hosted a pop up party in local butcher shop ‘Hans the Butcher’, djing to a packed out crowd in the meat lovers paradise. Skrillex performed in the Arctic Disco plus Hot Since 82 brought his groundbreaking TAKEN party to the middle of the Austrian outback.
Tuesday 7th April – The Mad Hatter’s Street Party took over the town with Basement Jaxx, The Cuban Brothers & David Rodigan, all performing in front of a crowd of dressed up festival revelers. Skrillex headlined at The Racket Club, joined by Wilkinson, Jack Beats and Alex Metric plus Dubfire and James Zabiela got busy in the Arctic Disco and the Watergate crew took over the Bruckenstadhl with Tiefschwarz, Ruede Hagelstein and Alex Niggemann.
Wednesday 8th April – By day, the Arctic Disco played host to Second City and Lele Sacchi. US house maestro MK took control for the nighttime session before he, Tensnake and the Defected crew joined forces at the Racket Club for a momentous night of house music. Skrillex decided to extend his stay and jumped on for a surprise set at the Parrots and Pineapples Pool Party. Waze and Odyssey, Job Jobse, Modeselektor, Dense and Pika, Guti and Damian Lazarus also performed.
Thursday 9th April – Beaming sunshine was the order of the day on the mountain, with board competitions, parties on the piste and a Forest Party frenzy with 2manydjs, Heidi vs Justin Martin and James Zabiela. By night, Fatboy Slim headlined a heaving Racket Club joined by Hannah Wants and Disciples. Meanwhile, over at Arena, the Hospitality showcase featured acts including London Elektricity, Etherwood, Nu:tone and Metrik.
Friday 10th April
The awesome crescendo filled climax of Snowbombing featured Rudimental live, headlining the Forest stage, plus sets from Idris Elba and My Nu Leng. The Mobilee crew got busy at the Bruckenstadhl with sets from Anja Schneider, Re. You and label head Ralf Kollmann, whilst AUS took over Europahaus with Huxley, Will Saul, T Williams and Tom Demac. Breaks ruled at the Arena with a late night session featuring A-Skills, Stanton Warriors and Krafty Kuts.
In addition to the extensive music programme, festivalgoers also experienced an innovative lifestyle program, featuring Snow-ga, a unique blend of music, yoga and dance, Ski Lift and Cable Car Raves, Ski Lift Speed Dating, daytime dance party Lunchtime Disco, Ski Lift Karaoke and daily fitness classes on the slopes from the UK’s number 1 90s fitness hero Mr Motivator.
