The Irish singer Róisín Murphy (also known as a member of the band Moloko) and DJ Shadow, a pioneer of turntablism and trip-hop, are some more great names from other countries at Pohoda. Our line-up also features Jana Kirschner, David Koller, Bjarki, and many others. There will be a new sheltered stage Red Bull Music Academy. Pohoda will bring the project which unites music enthusiasts through artists performances, lectures, and workshops for the first time in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
RÓSÍN MURPHY
Róisín rose to fame in the nineties as a singer of the band Moloko and had world famous hits “Sing It Back” and “The Time is Now”. After the breakup of the band, she started her solo career, which brought her the recognition of critics, and she became the first lady of electro-pop. Róisín with her extravagant sense of fashion paved the way for singers like Lady Gaga. Hairless Toys, her third studio album, was produced by Eddie Stevens, Jana Kirschnerʼs spouse. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize, it received the average rating of 80% on Metacritic, and The Guardian wrote about it as of pure stimulating elegance.
DJ SHADOW
DJ Shadow is a pioneer of instrumental hip-hop, turntablism, trip-hop, and sampling. In his work, he uses a large sound bank and personal collection of more than 60,000 recordings. The Time magazine ranked his album Endtroducing among the 100 greatest albums of all times and Pitchfork placed on the seventh place in the ranking of 100 greatest albums of the 90s. The album has also a recording in the Guinness Book of Records as the first completely sampled album. On 6th July 2015, he began work on the fifth solo album; it will be released 24th June this year. Two weeks later, he will introduce it, along with other compositions, to the visitors of Pohoda.
JANA KIRSCHNER
Jana Kirschner is currently the most awarded and most successful Slovakian singer and songwriter. Her songs and albums are popular with both fans of alternative as well as mainstream music. Her own words after her performance at Trenčín Airport back in 2012 give us a hint of what we can expect of Jana Kirschner gig at the festival: “I think that Pohoda has a well-brought-up audience that are happy to get surprised and they love when the artist brings something new… for this audience, every single Slovak band do their best to prepare the best program possible”.
DAVID KOLLER
David Koller has had a very successful year. In March 2015, he released the album ČeskosLOVEnsko and in April this year, the album brought him three statuettes from the Angel Award issued by the Czech Academy of Popular Music: for the best singer, best album and band of quarter-century (Lucie). He is going to play his new pieces and the greatest hits of Lucie also at Pohoda 2016.
BJARKI
Bjarki is an Icelandic techno DJ playing under the label of Nina Kraviz Trip. Last week, he released under this label three CD containing 41 tracks. He became popular with his song „I Wanna Go Bang“, which was the most played song of last summer on the dance scene. In August 2015, the Rollingstone magazine included him in their choice: 10 New Artists You Need to Know.
The iconic Karosa Red Bull Tour Bus will be replaced this year by the larger and noisier Red Bull Music Academy stage. It will present a world series of music workshops Red Bull Music Academy, whose main idea is to promote musical creativity and those who today strongly influence current events in the music industry. The Red Bull Music Academy stage will feature: José Rebelle, a London BBC Radio 1´s DJ who was the first guest of the Boiler Room series; the producer Koreless of the famous label Young Turks; Sevdaliza, an R&B star originating from Iran; Never Sol, the latest representative of the Czech Republic and Slovakia at the Academy in Tokyo, the mysterious project of the singer Katarzia and Martina Valihora, and many others. The music section will be accompanied by the visual concept by Michaela Chmelíčková. We will soon provide more information on the Red Bull Music Academy stage.
SUBURBAN TRANSPORTATION
In addition to the new forms of accommodation, the twentieth Pohoda offers one more type of alternative transportation. Pohoda suburban transportation service will connect Trenčín Airport with Trenčianske Teplice. Coaches will bring visitors directly to entrance of the festival and after concerts on the Main Stage are over (1:30), they will be waiting in front of the main stage. Season tickets for all three days will be available in our webshop for €15 (6 rides). Tickets will also be available on coaches (one ride for €4). We will ask you on Facebook if you are interested in this service also in other regional centres ranging from Považská Bystrica to Piešťany. The advance sale will be launched at the end of the week.
HUTS INOVEC
The concept of higher living comfort we introduced last year. The wooden huts were then sold out in a couple of hours, and this year in a few minutes. That is why our colleague Vlado Jurčák prepared the first huts exclusively in the production of our festival. We named them Inovec, by the highest mountain visible from Trenčín. Inovec huts for two people are very comfortable. The price for one hut for 2 people/3 nights is €219.
