NO BOUNDARIES, NO FILTERS: BMVA 2025 BRINGS THE WILDEST MUSIC VIDEOS TO BERLIN

The Berlin Music Video Awards (BMVA) is coming back this June. What is new and what can we expect from the 13th edition of the festival?

From 12–14 of June 2025 many worldwide valued filmmakers and music artists will come to Berlin to try their hand at taking one of the BMVA’s awards home. Who will it be this year?

Berlin Music Video Awards this year will have 400 videos screened in full length. Filmmakers and musicians from around the world submit works and come to network in this event. The festival stands as a platform proving that visuals have the power to shape music and emotions in extraordinary ways. Also, we can’t forget to mention that this event offers exclusive screenings, electrifying performances, engaging discussions, and unparalleled networking opportunities! Some like to call it the filmmaking scene’s very own spring break extravaganza!

Shock, Art, and Music: The Edgy Spirit of BMVA.

The Berlin Music Video Awards is a place to challenge, celebrating not only music videos but also the eccentric and avant-garde. From the wildly creative “Most Bizarre” category to the unapologetically daring “Most Trashy,” the festival embraces artistic expression in its most unfiltered forms. Last year’s highlights included a unique tattoo

competition (hosted by Bianca Radoslav), merging body art with musical influence. With an open-minded audience and an atmosphere of creative exploration, it is safe to say that this is a festival where creativity in all its forms is not just welcomed but celebrated.

Kinky, Chaotic, and Trashy

The Most Trashy category honors music videos that dare to be provocative, Silly, and delightfully prohibited content, whether through outrageous fashion, wild storytelling, or sheer shock value. It’s where unfiltered creativity meets fearless expression, pushing the boundaries of conventional aesthetics.

Year after year, this category attracts artists who revel in rebellion and extravagance, making it one of the most entertaining and talked-about sections of the awards.

In the jury panel of this category there are some very provocative characters! You can find the porn star (and artist) Robert Royal, Tomas Goetz vonaust (House Of Shame), and the Filmmaker Firat Gurgen who was nominated himself to this category in 2022.
With nominees like Halsey’s „Safeword“, directed by Lana Jay Lackey, this year promises an electrifying mix of controversy, fun, and pure visual madness. Halsey’s latest single, „Safeword,“ released on February 27, 2025, marks a bold exploration into punk rock, blending provocative themes with a raw, energetic sound. The track showcases Halsey’s fearless approach to music, delving into themes of power dynamics and sexuality. Watch the whole video here:

The Experimental Culture Day at the Berlin Music Video Awards lands on none other than Friday the 13th, a date perfectly suited for a lineup of dark, edgy, and unapologetically nerdy festivities. Among the categories of that day are the “Most Bizarre”, “Best Low Budget”, “Most Trashy”, “Best Experimental,” and the new “Best AI Video” categories.

This year’s program features a special AI in Music Videos stage talk with none other than The Dor Brothers, followed by an inky twist: winners will be awarded with tattoos on the spot. As night falls, the celebration descends into the iconic KitKat Club dungeons, where Domino Ari Denaro (jury member for the Most Bizarre category) will host an after-party that promises to be unforgettable.

But don’t get it twisted! While Friday brings the wild and the weird, the rest of the festival holds space for elegance and prestige, with appearances from internationally acclaimed filmmakers and a more refined dress code.

History shows that BMVA always finds crazy performances!

At the Berlin Music Video Awards, we have a chance to see performances from various music genres! And this year’s edition is already making us all excited about performances! Who are they gonna be? One performer that caught our attention particularly is Jedy Deady, born Alisa Dronova, who is an artist renowned for blending art, technology, and performance. Since starting her artistic journey at 17, she has created a cyberpunk-inspired universe filled with vibrant colors and intricate textures. Her background in gaming and cosplay deeply influences her work, resulting in narratives that resonate with a diverse audience.

Other live acts include Ice Zaddy, Louis Cardozo, Lamia, and Ballet Sur_Real all of whom have videos featured in this year’s lineup. They’re not just showing up, they’re showing out ready to bring their energy from the screen straight to the stage.

For a visual experience of her work, you can watch the music video for „DDB“ :

And what about some networking?

The BMVA is renowned for its commitment to inclusivity, offering a platform where rising talents share the stage with industry icons, embodying Berlin’s avant-garde creativity. This openness underscores the festival’s dedication to celebrating diverse voices and artistic perspectives. Aviel Silook, the festival’s founder and producer, describes it as:

“The Berlin Music Video Awards is the ultimate networking hub for professionals in the music video industry. It’s also the perfect place to discover rising talents before they make it big. Whether you’re a musician, filmmaker, or industry professional, this is an event you can’t afford to miss. Mark your calendars! This could be the career-changing opportunity you’ve been waiting for!”
