The 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, a non-specialized festival with two competitive categories, took place from June 30th to July 8th. It was organized by Film Servis Festival Karlovy Vary, a.s., with Jiří Bartoška as the president of the festival, Karel Och as its artistic director, Kryštof Mucha as the executive director and Petr Lintimer as the head of production.
The 58th Karlovy Vary IFF will be held from June 28th to July 6th 2024.
On July 8th, the festival’s juries presented awards for the best films at the closing ceremony of the 57th Karlovy Vary IFF.

Daniela Kolářová, the star of films such as Empties, Summer with a Cowboy and the comedy Ball Lightning, received the KVIFF President’s Award at the closing ceremony.
“I spent my youth from the age of four to eighteen in Karlovy Vary and I have fond memories of the town. All I would say is that I am grateful that Hotel Pupp is called Pupp again. When we had dance lessons here, it was called Hotel Moscow,” said the favourite Czech actress.

Winners of KVIFF Eastern Promises
KVIFF Eastern Promises, the festival’s Industry section and film market, has the exciting mission of bridging the gap between talented filmmakers and their potential partners, festivals and audiences. “Just like every year, we’ve tried to curate a nice mix of projects from around the regions, a solid mix of documentary and feature films, and we now hope that they’ll be able to find new partners to complete their films and start on the festival circuit.“ Hugo Rosák, the Head of the KVIFF Film Industry Office, commented.
A total of 27 film projects were screened within the festival’s three established programs: Works in Progress, Works in Development – Feature Launch, and First Cut+, competing for awards with a total value of 115,000 EUR.

KVIFF Eastern Promises, Karlovy Vary IFF’s industry platform, strives to help discover promising talent from the regions of Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, revealing it to over 1,300 distributors, sales agents, producers and festival programmers who attend the festival each year. Both European and non-European local distributors and major international sales reps rely on Karlovy Vary when searching for new movies. International sales companies introduce their films to both distributors and journalists from around the world. The Industry Days programme comprises a number of workshops, panels and presentations or networking opportunities. The primary focus on the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East makes it possible for key European and American industry players to discover fresh new projects in various stages of development and production. RECAP:
There were a total of 445 film screenings and total of 123 517 tickets were sold. A total of 185 films were screened, including 116 feature fiction films, 28 feature documentaries and 41 short films. 36 films received their world premiere, while 11 had their international premiere and 5 their European premiere. 188 screenings were personally presented by delegations of filmmakers. 93 Press & Industry screenings were held.
